Institutional Site License Pricing for the Nature titles - Old pricing structure

This is the old pricing scheme (for Academic Libraries) announced in September 2000 and valid until Spring 2001. This became moot when the Nature Publishing Group announced their revised site licenses together with a new pricing scheme valid from May 1, 2001. For the Monthlies and Reviews, Nature implemented an interim pricing scheme (see below) which quickly turned out to be totally unacceptable and was revised soon afterwards (new prices were set in June 2001).

Figures given are for the Americas ($) and all other regions (£), print prices quoted are list prices for the Americas and Europe, resp.

Nature (Old pricing structure, as of Sep 2000***. Print prices as of 2001)
Personal (P+O): $159 £109 €185, Inst (Print only): $775 £370 €616

Site License Fee (SL) was based on total number (both full-time and part-time, not FTE count) of students, faculty, and researchers (SFR)

$0.50 £0.31/user for the first 10,000
add $0.30 £0.18/user for the next 10,000
add $0.15 £0.09/user for any user above 20,000
Minimum Fee: $1200 £850
Print subscription: included with site license (one copy).
Total SFR count:

Nature Publishing Group Specialist Journals
About 30 Specialist Journals have a licensing model similar to "ordinary" journals. Available in Print, Online, and Combined. Prices for Print and Online are identical for domestic delivery, otherwise Print is higher. A Combined subscription is Print + 10%. Permanent archive: none. Site definition: organization/auth. users.

***) Historical Note: Price quotes given by the Nature Publishing Group for site licenses for Nature Weekly (not the monthlies and Reviews) reportedly more than doubled (?) in March (?) 2001. Since the revised pricing scheme became moot with the announcement of the new global institutional site licensing policy and corresponding changes in pricing on Apr 23, we have given up attempts to get more information on that interim pricing policy.

Nature Monthlies (7) and Nature Reviews (3) - Revised Site Licenses

Interim pricing structure announced on Apr 23, 2001 on Nature's website (with some errors in its presentation), removed on Apr 25. Pricing was revised downward (as shown in red below) in June 2001 (prices for single title purchases more than halfed, prices for the complete suite of 7+3 titles decreased by 30% or more).

License Fee does no longer include a paper copy of the journal
