Preparation for interim operation
Until the general refurbishment, only the ground floor is open for use. The upper floors and the basement have been separated from the ground floor by a partition wall and new doors and are no longer accessible. Some of the employees moved to the temporary offices at Herdweg 51 in November 2025. The holdings from the stacks of the UB City Center in the basement was moved to external stacks in Weilimdorf in early 2026.
Interim operations on the first floor
The circulation desk, the pick-up shelf with the available media orders and the self-checkout terminal have been moved to the first floor.
Study places for individual work are available in the foyer, study places for group work are available in the auditorium. Alternative study areas to the limited study options in the library in the city center can be found in the immediate vicinity in the institute libraries in College Building I and II. Three computer workstations for researching the catalog and e-media, two book scanner and a microform reader can now be found in the foyer.
A copy machine has been set up at the study stations for group work in the auditorium.
The TIK box for the collection of plot orders is now located at the pick-up shelf on the first floor.
The TIK user helpdesk service in the city center has moved to the Kollegiengebäude II (K II). You can now find the TIK user helpdesk service in the entrance area of the Library of the Institutes of Linguistics and Literary Studies on the 3rd floor of K II (Keplerstraße 17).
It is not longer possible for library visitors to take books from the shelves in the reading room and the open shelves area. All desired items must be requested via the online catalog and can then be checked out at the pick-up shelf via the self-service terminal or at the circulation desk.
Requests on stock held at the external stacks in Weilimdorf can be fulfilled no earlier than 1 p.m. the following day: For requests from Monday through Thursday before 12 p.m, items will be available at both locations (City Center and Vaihingen) on the following day from approx. 1 p.m. For requests from Thursday after 12 p.m. through Monday before 12 p.m., items will be available at both locations (City Center and Vaihingen) on Tuesday from approx. 1 p.m.
Media can only be returned at the circulation desk in the foyer. Outside of service hours, media can be returned to the security service.
Doctoral students who wish to submit the mandatory copies of their theses can do so as usual by appointment in the entrance area at the office of the Team Publication Services (T3).
Vaihingen
The building of the University of Stuttgart Library on Vaihingen campus can be used without limitations. All study spaces are available there.
