February 15, 2024

The failure of large parts of the electrical system limits library visits

With the shutdown of power distribution panels, which had been in operation since construction of the building, electrical distribution panels in August 2023, large parts of the library building will have limited power. On October 25, 2023, the building reopened for visits with restrictions.

The Learning Center, the reading room and the open stacks are not accessible.

Temporary study spaces have been set up in the entrance hall, auditorium and catalog hall.

A total of 260 study spaces are available in the entrance hall and adjacent auditorium as well as the catalog hall on the 1st floor. These can be occupied Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The spaces in the auditorium have been set up for group work. Electricity is available on the ground floor only at some seats at the windows, on the 1st floor at all seats. A connection to the university WiFi is available.

Alternative study spaces are also available in the institute libraries in the university towers K I and K II.

Currently it is not possible for library visitors to take books from the shelves and check them out on their own.

All desired items must be requested via the online catalog and can then be checked out at the circulation desk or at the pick-up shelf via the self-service terminal and returned via the return station. Scanning and copying is possible on the first floor using the machines provided there.

Here we would like to point out the campus delivery service LEA (Local Electronic Article Delivery Service) once more which can be used free of charge by both employees and students of the University of Stuttgart. Complete articles and papers from journals or anthologies and up to 15 % of books from the holdings of the University of Stuttgart Library are scanned and made available for retrieval on the server.

Doctoral students who wish to submit the mandatory copies of their theses can do so as usual by appointment in the entrance area at the office of the Team Publication Services (T3).

The staff members of other departments, such as User Services, Media Services, Decentralized Libraries, and Academic Liaison Librarians, can be reached via the usual channels.

The building of the University of Stuttgart Library on Vaihingen campus can be used without limitations. All study spaces are available there and the regular opening hours apply.
