Internet Access

Without computer support and internet access, the items and information offered by a library are almost impossible to use anymore. Therefore, the goal of the University of Stuttgart Library is to offer you a comprehensive infrastructure in this area.

WiFi Coverage

At both library locations, City Center and Vaihingen, the public areas are provided with WiFi access points. Following networks are available here:

  • eduroam

Target group: Members of the University of Stuttgart and members of other institutions of the eduroam federation

Via the eduroam service you have the possibility to use the wireless network access of the University without a VPN client.

  • uni-stuttgart-open

An open WiFi is now available for invited guests of the University on both the Campus Vaihingen and City Center.

Guests simply have to select the "uni-stuttgart-open" network from the list of available WiFi. After connecting for the first time, users are automatically redirected to a login portal where they must confirm the ICT terms and conditions. This confirmation activates Internet access for the next eight hours; after that, this must be repeated.

With this consent, the user confirms that he or she is actually an invited guest of the University of Stuttgart - for example, participating in a workshop or conference or providing services. Persons who only want to stay on campus for the purpose of using the public WiFi are not allowed to use this WiFi at all. Students and employees with eduroam user accounts should preferentially use that. The coverage of the open network corresponds to that of the eduroam network.

Information on how to use the WiFi can be found on the IZUS-TIK web pages.

VPN Access

Off-campus you can connect to the university network via VPN access.

The principle: Within the existing internet connection, the VPN login establishes a protected connection to the university network. That way you can, regardless of your location, also use services and offers that would otherwise only be accessible on computers in the campus network.

Usually, you need the software Cisco Any Connect to establish the protected connection on your device.

Information on how to use VPN and on the client software can be found on the IZUS-TIK web pages.
