In the University administration's circular on the restricted use of the library, reference was already made to the inadequate and building-related ventilation situation. This problem still exists. Following a massive water ingress through the roof, the reading room at the University Library, City Center location, must now also remain closed due to the renovation of the roof drainage system. We currently expect the construction work to continue for at least two more months.
Other rooms within the University Library, City Center location (e.g. entrance hall, lecture hall) can also not be used as workspaces, as the fire alarm system has to be deactivated due to the construction work.
At the Vaihingen campus, the reading room can also not be opened due to the building's technical situation, as an air flow measurement must first be carried out here prior to reopening so that a necessary expertise can be obtained.
Update on toilet renovation in Vaihingen (01.04.):
Currently, the user toilets in Vaihingen are being renovated (see pictures). During the ongoing work, it was discovered that the old Eternit pipes containing asbestos are probably also defective and need to be replaced. We therefore assume that the construction work will certainly not be completed by the planned April 15, but will rather extend into the fall.
This also means that a potential opening of the Vaihingen site for users has moved further into the distance, as we cannot offer public services without a functioning toilet facility.
We ask for your continued understanding.
