The coin, attributed to Hellenistic Greece, more precisely to the Pontic king Mithradates VI (c. 130–63 BC), has a diameter of 2.2 cm and weighs 7.9 g. It was minted in bronze at the Amisos mint in the Pontus region, in what is now Turkey. It is part of the Greek coin collection of the Historical Institute of the University of Stuttgart, which was purchased by Prof. Olshausen and intensively researched in the 1990s and 2000s. The University of Stuttgart is a member of the Network of University Coin Collections in Germany (NUMiD). NUMiD catalogs the collections from a common platform and provides a subject-specific database environment. The aim is to strengthen the historical significance and research potential of the coins in the participating collections.
