Information on the reopening

As of May 11, 2020 we can offer you limited access for borrowing and returning media at both library locations.

The structural condition does not allow for sufficient ventilation of the reading rooms and learning centers. Therefore, they can unfortunately not be opened for studying and working.

The institute libraries will remain closed.

Access to the library is permitted Monday to Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for a maximum of 10 users at the same time. Please note that this is only possible if the UB's regulations for visitors are observed and the current SARS-CoV-2 hygiene concept of the University of Stuttgart is taken into account.

Before you visit us, please do the following online:

  • request all the physical media you require via the library catalog (only then you can usually pick them up on the following day! Media which have been requested on Friday for pick-up at the other library location, however, will be available on Monday, not on Saturday.)
  • check your library account to see if media is available for you
  • the reservation of desired media
  • the extension of the loan period for media already borrowed
  • all questions for research or other advice under: Ask the UB
  • for new registrations: Please bring the registration form with you, already filled out
  • the use of the LEA scan service (Local Electronic Article Delivery Service) for all members of the University of Stuttgart
  • the order of articles and media, which are not in the library's stock, via interlibrary loan

Visit us for:

  • collecting the provided UB-media (usually the day after the order) in the self-collection area
  • borrowing these media at the self-service stations
  • collecting available interlibrary loan media at the respective service desk
  • paying your fees
  • returning borrowed UB-media at the return sation
  • returning of borrowed interlibrary loan media at the service desk
  • registration at the service desk (with completed registration form)

Currently not possible is:

  • access to the reading rooms and the local use of the non-lending collection
  • access to the Learning Center and the group/individual working rooms
  • the use of daily and monthly lockers and media trolleys
  • the use of the research desks of the University Library
  • personal consultation for research questions
  • the use of scanners and copiers/printers
  • personal advice sessions and the use of the PC pool in the city centre
  • the realization of introductory and training events (face-to-face)
  • the use of the book deposit box next to the main entrance at the Vaihingen location, that means returning media outside of the opening hours is not possible at either location at the moment

Still possible:

  • Use of electronic resources for members of the university (eduroam, AnyConnect-VPN) as before (local use of electronic media in the UB rooms still not possible)
  • Additional e-resources for home office can be found here.
  • Questions regarding the submission of dissertations can be asked by telephone (0711/685-83512) or by email to Questions will be answered very promptly.
